Halloween day is swiftly approaching, and with it falling perfectly on a Friday this year, there's no better excuse to spend the weekend curled up with a classic horror film. But before you press play on your go-to film, you might want to consider what the critics are suggesting.
Rotten Tomatoes has released its list of the top 200 horror movies "of all time" and the results are anything but predictable. Surprisingly, classic films like The Shining and Psycho didn't make the top 10. Instead, the ranking highlights a mix of contemporary masterpieces and overlooked gems.
The number one spot is even given to a modern horror set in Essex and has a British-led cast. Below, we have listed the top ten films suggested by the critic.

For those unaware, the film follows Amelia, who struggles with her troubled son, Samuel, six years after her husband's death. Samuel's nightmares feature a deadly monster, and when the storybook The Babadook appears, Samuel's fears escalate, and Amelia soon realises the creature may be real.
